From my POV what I call "THIS" remains unmanifested until an act of distinction collapses the wave function. Most physicists say that it requires an act of "observation" to collapse the wave function, but this is because they do not appreciate the significant difference between seeing and imagining. From my POV the manifested universe, the universe as imagined, remains a superposition of infinite possibility whereas THIS is simply what it is. Whether a scientist chooses to imagine or not imagine has little to do with ordinary life, but it has a lot to do with doing physics. Physicists look at THIS, and then they imagine what they see, or they infer imaginary things about what they see, or they infer imaginary things about what they infer.
I got extremely frustrated in college because my physics professor could not explain to me what a photon is. He was not a sage, so our conversation was like two people speaking different languages. He had no idea what I was asking or why it was important to me. I simply wanted to understand what's going on at a more fundamental level than he did. I knew that something was rotten in Denmark, but I didn't know what it was.
After twenty more years of thinking, I was absolutely no closer to the truth (LOL), but, like you, at least I knew that I didn't know anything. At that point, it took only five months of ATA, and suddenly I understood what I wanted to know. I realized that a photon is an idea, only. The truth is .....(flicks light switch and smiles).
