Important note: All the posts on this blog were written by Bob Harwood (AKA 'zendancer') on the forum spiritualteachers.proboards.com. I have merely reposted a collection of them in blog format for the convenience of seekers. Some very small mods were made on occasion to make posts readable outside of the forum setting they were made in.

If you believe in free will

...then choose not to choose to do anything for a brief period of time. Sit down in a chair, and then choose not to choose whether to continue sitting in the chair or to get up from the chair. If thoughts cease, then in that ensuing emptiness whatever happens next will not be "you" choosing it. In the absence of thoughts there is no "you." There is only THIS. If something happens, and "you" didn't choose it, what did? If something happens without "you" making it happen, is the word "volition" even meaningful? It's just an experiment, but it can be eye-opening.
