The question will make perfect sense to someone who thinks s/he is a person who has had periodic experiences of unity consciousness during which selfhood disappeared. Many people have had experiences of samadhi or cosmic consciousness in which observer and observed become one, but such experiences (like all experiences) always come to an end. It is simply another way of asking, "How can I STAY in a state in which I remain absent?" or "How can I become enlightened?"
The question, itself, contains a fundamental misconception, but by contemplating the question, it can free the body/mind from the idea that selfhood ever existed in any sense. It can end the spiritual search completely.
