Important note: All the posts on this blog were written by Bob Harwood (AKA 'zendancer') on the forum spiritualteachers.proboards.com. I have merely reposted a collection of them in blog format for the convenience of seekers. Some very small mods were made on occasion to make posts readable outside of the forum setting they were made in.

How much belief

...is required to "know" that a hot stovetop is hot when it is touched? This is the kind of knowing that is involved in knowing "I am." No separation or gap is required for this kind of knowing. Intellectual knowing (episteme) is continually confused by people on this forum with body knowing (gnosis). Beliefs only reside in the intellect. If thinking stops, and the intellect is totally quiescent, body knowing continues.

If a sage asks someone, "Who are you, really?" she is testing the person to see what that person understands. A person who is free of thought can answer that question instantly in a way that illustrates her understanding to the sage. People who are not free of the mind will have no reference for understanding that kind of interaction.
