Ceasing to feel competitive, ceasing to need to "keep up with the Joneses," ceasing to find acceptable belief systems, and ceasing to search for "one's way in life" is probably a natural consequence of gradually coming to terms with one's life situation and/or achieving certain goals for oneself.
At my age the only people I know who are seeking anything who also live relatively happy lives are people still searching for truth. So, yes, I should have qualified my last statement. When I wrote that, I was thinking about the majority of my friends and forgetting the few who are both relatively happy and also still seeking.
