Important note: All the posts on this blog were written by Bob Harwood (AKA 'zendancer') on the forum spiritualteachers.proboards.com. I have merely reposted a collection of them in blog format for the convenience of seekers. Some very small mods were made on occasion to make posts readable outside of the forum setting they were made in.

For those who are still seeking answers to existential questions

...questions such as,

1. What's going on?
2. Who am I, really?
3. What is the purpose or meaning of life?
4. What should I be doing?
5. Is there a God?
6. Where was I before I was born, and where will I be after I die?
7. Are any beliefs true, and if so, what are they?

here is some simple advice:

1. Occasionally contemplate the questions, so that they are periodically reviewed by mind
2. Shift attention away from thoughts to what can be perceived directly through the senses (what can be seen, heard, felt, etc)

When the intellect is not required for solving technical problems, and the intellect is chattering about past or future events, and the chattering is recognized, shift attention away from the internal monologue to what can be seen or heard. Do this again and again until attention is not distracted by thoughts.

Doing this brings the body/mind into a state of present Being, and allows it to remain there free of ideation. This state of alert attentiveness cannot be imagined.

As the body/mind shifts attention from thoughts to "what is," many unusual experiences, insights, and realizations will occur. The body/mind will return to its "roots" so to speak, and sooner or later it will tap into the vast intelligence of the universe. Existential questions will then collapse--will be "seen through"-- (sometimes many at the same time), and the truth will emerge.

Each human being must find the truth for him/herself. No one else can do it for you.

Become still, become present, and discover the truth for yourself.
