As we look at the boundary between the water and the land at finer and finer levels of magnification, the shoreline grows longer and longer.
Building bigger "particle colliders" is like increasing the level of magnification of the shoreline, and will result in unending "discoveries" (ideas) of what "composes" matter. The physicist is like a dog chasing its own tail and thinking that it is something "out there." At the level of mind/intellect we can summarize what's happening as, "Something unknown is doing something unknown in some unknown way." At the level of direct perception/intuition/presence it can be summarized as.......(silently smiles).
