Important note: All the posts on this blog were written by Bob Harwood (AKA 'zendancer') on the forum spiritualteachers.proboards.com. I have merely reposted a collection of them in blog format for the convenience of seekers. Some very small mods were made on occasion to make posts readable outside of the forum setting they were made in.

Post-retreat comedown

The question Gangaji asked Gerta was, "What were you doing different in your everyday life at home than what you were doing when you were on retreat?" Ask yourself the same question. You apparently felt great after your time with on a retreat but now you don't feel so good. What are you doing differently? Where was your attention then, and where is your attention now? What kinds of thoughts were you having then, and what kind of thoughts are you having now? Were you living in your head then? Are you living in your head now? Were you thinking negative thoughts about yourself then? Are you thinking negative thoughts about yourself now? Were you comparing your state of mind to some imaginary idea then? Are you comparing your state of mind to some imaginary idea now? This is not rocket science, and you are plenty smart enough to investigate what you were doing then versus what you are doing now. Take a look!

You can either unconsciously ride the roller coaster of spiritual highs and lows or you can investigate and discover what creates the highs and lows. You can then decide whether or not you want to continue that pattern. You are not helpless in this matter. You have the capability of getting off the roller coaster, but first you have to understand how you put yourself on it.
