Important note: All the posts on this blog were written by Bob Harwood (AKA 'zendancer') on the forum spiritualteachers.proboards.com. I have merely reposted a collection of them in blog format for the convenience of seekers. Some very small mods were made on occasion to make posts readable outside of the forum setting they were made in.

Intellectual failure in the search

For those people who are primarily driven by curiosity (rather than a need to escape from suffering or to attain happiness), intuition suggests that the conventional explanation for what's going on can't possibly be correct. The search is undertaken in an effort to understand where the error lies. At some point we discover that intellectual understanding is totally incapable of resolving the issue, and we begin to shift attention away from thoughts. Intellectual failure drives us to contemplation.

Becoming still, alone, would resolve the issue and reveal what's going on, but we rarely hear such advice. In the rare cases when such advice is heard, it is usually misunderstood or ignored because of our strong conditioning (and daily habit) of interacting only with thoughts.
