Important note: All the posts on this blog were written by Bob Harwood (AKA 'zendancer') on the forum spiritualteachers.proboards.com. I have merely reposted a collection of them in blog format for the convenience of seekers. Some very small mods were made on occasion to make posts readable outside of the forum setting they were made in.

Presence/God

Over a period of many years this body/mind had a wide range of what it imagined were unity-consciousness experiences (cosmic consciousness, samadhi, "in the zone", etc) and also realizations. The unity-consciousness experiences were only known as experiences after they occurred because while they were occurring, there was no separate observer; the body/mind was one-with the action and no person was present. Eventually, a realization occurred that there was no separate person who had ever had unity-consciousness experiences--that there was only a unified field of being doing whatever it was doing. It became clear that that unified field of being is ALL, and that all separateness is an illusion.

However, during what can be called "experiences of cosmic consciousness" there was awareness of a vast and incomprehensible Presence, which is what we might choose to call "God" or "Source." This Vastness seemed to be aware of Itself through some unknown organ of perception through which It, alone, could perceive Itself. Any human being who has had such an experience, could never imagine that s/he is God. It could only imagine that s/he is an infinitessimal dustmote in the being of THAT.

This is why Tung-Shan wrote,
"Today, walking alone,
I meet him everywhere I step.
He is the same as me,
yet I am not him."

Jesus said to the Centurion, in essence, "Just as you are under orders (from Rome)I am under orders (from God).

Captain Ahab in "Moby D*ck" asked, "Is it I or God who lifts this hand?"

What a wonderful koan! The only thing better is the answer!
