Important note: All the posts on this blog were written by Bob Harwood (AKA 'zendancer') on the forum spiritualteachers.proboards.com. I have merely reposted a collection of them in blog format for the convenience of seekers. Some very small mods were made on occasion to make posts readable outside of the forum setting they were made in.

What happens

...if attention is shifted away from self-referential thoughts every time they appear to what is happening in the present moment--to what can be seen or heard? If there is simply looking or listening, all judgment of "boring" or "exciting" disappears. Self-reflection also disappears. Fantasies disappear. There is looking or listening, but no one who is doing it. The activity is empty. The observer and the observed both cease to exist.

What happens if this shifting of attention from thoughts to "what is" continues?
